Zoofest is celebrating its 5th anniversary!

The Festival takes off its training wheels and is back with a more “mature”(well, a tiny bit at least) line-up of half theatre and half comedy shows, and of course, a little burlesque to top it off!

Montreal, June 5th, 2013 – Comedy, music, theatre, burlesque and other art forms are just around the corner at this fifth edition of  Zoofest in Montreal, with a programming that rocks the limits like never before, whether you are a new fan, or already addicted! So make room in your summer agenda for more than 20 different shows, starring emerging talents from all over the world, presented in 10 rooms in the heart of the entertainment district, from July 4th to July 28th.

Zoofest presented in collaboration with Sleeman is an international, multi-genre festival featuring emerging artist through alternative and eclectic programming. Zoofest’s mandate is to deliver wild adventures and unique experiences to its audiences, at a more than affordable price!

The Festival manages to reach an audience that is well beyond 18 to 35 years-olds. The wide range of fans can only be classified as bold, curious, intelligent, sometimes sarcastic and thirsty for new discoveries.

Zoofest’s Programming director Fannie Bissonnette, along with General and Artistic Director Martin Durocher, worked harder than ever to ensure a more diverse programming in 2013, with an unprecedented boom! It should be noted that Zoofest is back this year with tickets under $ 20. Yes, life is beautiful indeed!

Comedy as always been Zoofest’s brain candy, and this year is no different

From the award-winning creator of last year’s show Phone Whore, Slut (r)evolution merges memory and manifesto to explore incendiary events from Cameryn Moore’s very sexual life. How did it feel? What the hell was she thinking? And how will it affect tonight’s hook-up?  Big props to Miss Moore for winning Best of Fest 2011 at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival!

Pretending Things Are A Cock is a unique stand-up show, part photographic exhibition, part pot-holed journey into the idiosyncratic world of Jon Bennett. This is an experience you don’t want to miss! Are you in?

Let’s start a country is a live, experimental comedy show, performed by foreign-born citizens and semi-professional nation-builders Gerald Harris and Shane Adamczak. Each night, under the leadership of these two brave pioneers, the audience-cum-Parliament will pass laws, establish a system of justice and create a national culture from scratch, resulting in a brand new country to call their own. Let’s call it a kind of geo-political theater.

Teaching in Kuwait was going well for Andy, until he went to prison for bootlegging. Kuwaiti moonshine is a collision of misled intuition, illegal moonshine, the Gulf War, regret, lost love...and hope. Winner of The Best Of Fest 2012 at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. You will never see life in the same way.

L.A. rising star Ivana Shein is coming to Montreal to blow your mind! Whereas some women spent their twenties chasing unavailable men… (didn’t we all?), Ivana is searching for something so elusive, so utterly out of her grip, so just beyond her yoga poses.

UncleFOFI's Couscous Comedy Show is the craziest in Canada when it comes to having a good time while eating the best couscous of your life. This very Montreal concept was created in 2009 and is now famous for presenting some of the best comedians around, all the while hosting and cooking couscous for everyone at every show he puts on. Belly full of laughter…and food, guaranteed!

This year has the wildest theatre programming since Zoofest’s creation, with a variety of plays that won’t let you down!

Let’s start with the Australians Die Roten punkte. Fans of Spinal Tap and Flight of the Conchords, say hello to your new favourite band. Catch the hilariously dysfunctional siblings, Berlin's prince and princess of indie-rock, before the release of their feature film in 2014. Described as a lipstick-smeared, tantrum-loving, sonic collision between The B-52's Kraftwerk and early Ramones.

Say what?! Roller derby saved my soul, of course! Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-loving Amy can’t skate, isn’t athletic and finds it impossible to live up to her little sister’s über-success. Then, from the internationally famous Australian comic Trent Baumann comes an incredible one-man murder-mystery: The Birdmann in the events of momentous timing. From the Melbourne Comedy Festival to the Glastonbury Music Festival, he’s elated crowds though exhilarating avant-garde acts, cutting-edge one-liners and ultra-cool montages.

Willy is a pharmaceutical astronaut cutting and pasting narrative over a backdrop of urban decay and suburban clot, mapping the Underbelly for future malcontents. A fevered hallucination inspired by the life and work of William S. Burroughs and The Beats.

Described as "Orwellian parody at its sexiest" and "as entertaining as it is subversive", Bad Ladies and the Detective is a theatre and neo-burlesque farce about surveillance, freedom and the power of joyful striptease. Join us for a night of laughs, video and artful disrobing as the detective pursues the sultry rebels!

What would it be like if your best friend was your sister-in-law, AND your husband’s wife? The Progressive Polygamists: the sweetest reformers is a seamless satire singing the virtues of polygamy’. Join two sister wives as they reform their way into your monogamous hearts. This 5-star fringe hit has charmed audiences across North America with its ‘intelligence and humour’.

Zoofest is proposing a wide range of venues to see your favorite shows: Les Katacombes, Théâtre La Chapelle, Cabaret du 4e at Monument National, La Balustrade and Agora Hydro-Quebec de l’UQAM.

The easiest way to make sure you don’t miss a thing is to head down to your closest Couche-Tard and grab a Zoopass on sale starting June 6th at 11 am for the ridiculous price of $ 49.99 and go downright bulimic in the Zoo. Moderate consumers can always bounce back through online solo tickets on zoofest.com also starting June 6th at 11 am.
